Registered Nurse – Operating Room (Full-Time)

About the role

We are seeking a full-time Registered Nurse (RN) to join the Operating Room team at the University of Miami. The RN will deliver patient-centered, culturally competent care, supporting surgical procedures and collaborating with physicians and allied health staff.

Key responsibilities

• Assess assigned patients, document nursing care, and monitor vital signs and changes in condition.
• Modify treatment plans based on patient responses, physician orders, and diagnostic test results.
• Prepare patients for examinations, procedures, and surgeries, providing education that respects age and cultural considerations.
• Administer medications and perform patient tests within the scope of practice, maintaining accurate records.
• Communicate care plans to patients, families, and the care team while ensuring HIPAA compliance.
• Assist with discharge planning and operate medical equipment safely.
• Serve as a preceptor, mentoring new staff and supporting their integration into the clinical environment.
• Adhere to university and unit policies, safeguarding assets and upholding quality and safety standards.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
• Minimum two years of nursing experience, preferably in an operating-room setting.
• Current, valid State of Florida RN license.
• Relevant certifications as required by the department.

Required skills

• Proficiency in patient assessment and documentation.
• Ability to administer medications and operate surgical equipment safely.
• Strong communication skills for interdisciplinary collaboration.
