Registered Nurse - Medical Surgical

About the role

UChicago Medicine AdventHealth in Bolingbrook, Illinois, is hiring a full-time Registered Nurse for its medical surgical unit. The schedule is 36 hours per week, days 6:30 am to 7:00 pm, with rotating weekends and holidays. Starting pay is $37.50 per hour, with a pay range of $33.94 to $57.08.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients' physiological, psychological, developmental, sociocultural, spiritual and lifestyle factors.
• Develop and implement individualized care plans, reviewing and revising them regularly.
• Administer medications and treatments accurately and safely, following physician orders and hospital protocols, and monitor for adverse reactions.
• Educate patients and families about conditions, treatments, medications and self-care.
• Collaborate with medical staff and ancillary departments to coordinate patient care.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the medical record.
• Ensure compliance with infection control, safety and regulatory requirements.
• Provide emotional support and therapeutic communication to patients and families.
• Supervise and delegate care provided by other team members.
• Participate in performance improvement activities, continuous professional development and code situations.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse (RN) license required; Associate's degree in nursing required, Bachelor's preferred.
• Fluent in English, read, spoken and written.
• 1+ year of acute care hospital experience preferred.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) / CPR certification required.
• Preferred certifications include CCNS, NRP, PEARS, TNCC, ABLS, CLC, ONS, SCR, GERO-BC and others listed.

Required skills

• Knowledge of nursing care methods and procedures.
• Teamwork and multi-tasking ability.
• Effective verbal and oral communication and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to use a high level of abstract reasoning to assess patients and revise care plans.
• Basic computer skills, including navigating Microsoft Windows programs.
• EKG assessment (based on patient; see EKG and ALS requirements).
