Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical (Full‑time)

About the role

The Residency Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical provides patient‑family centered care in a culturally competent environment at the University of Miami. This full‑time position focuses on delivering evidence‑based nursing care while supervising nurses and allied health staff.

Key responsibilities

• Assess assigned patients, document nursing care, and modify treatment plans based on patient response and physician orders.
• Review and report diagnostic test results, and consult with physicians and other healthcare professionals.
• Prepare patients for examinations, procedures, and treatments, considering age and cultural factors.
• Administer medications safely, maintain accurate medication records, and operate medical equipment.
• Communicate care plans to patients, families, and the care team while ensuring HIPAA compliance.
• Assist with discharge planning and transition of care using available resources.
• Serve as a preceptor for new staff, providing feedback and guidance.
• Adhere to university and unit policies, safeguarding assets.

Required profile

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program; BSN preferred (ASN graduates must complete BSN within two years).
• Valid Florida Registered Nurse license.
• Current ACLS and BLS certifications.
