Registered Nurse – Emergency Department (Full-Time)

About the role

The University of Miami is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) to join its Emergency Department team. This full‑time position provides patient‑family centered care in a fast‑paced, culturally competent environment, supporting both clinical staff and patients.

Key responsibilities

• Assess assigned patients, document nursing care, and report changes in condition and vital signs.
• Modify treatment plans based on patient responses, physician orders, and clinical guidelines.
• Review and interpret diagnostic tests to evaluate patient status.
• Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement care plans.
• Prepare patients for examinations, procedures, and treatments, considering age and cultural factors.
• Provide psychological support and nurture a compassionate environment.
• Administer medications and perform patient tests safely, maintaining accurate records per regulatory standards.
• Communicate care plans to patients, families, and team members while ensuring HIPAA compliance.
• Assist with discharge planning using available resources.
• Prioritize assignments, seek assistance when needed, and operate medical equipment safely.
• Serve as a preceptor for new staff, supporting their integration into the healthcare setting.
• Adhere to university and unit policies, safeguarding institutional assets.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
• Minimum of 2 years of relevant nursing experience.
• Valid State of Florida RN license.
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Pediatrics Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
