Registered Nurse – Cardiothoracic Stepdown (Full‑Time)

About the role

The University of Miami Health System is seeking a full‑time Registered Nurse to provide patient‑family centered care on the Cardiothoracic Stepdown unit. The role involves delivering evidence‑based nursing care, supporting patients through recovery, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.

Key responsibilities

• Assess assigned patients, document nursing care, and report changes in condition and vital signs.
• Modify treatment plans based on patient response, physician orders, and diagnostic test results.
• Prepare patients for examinations, procedures, and treatments while considering age and cultural factors.
• Administer medications safely, maintain accurate medication records, and operate relevant medical equipment.
• Communicate care plans to patients, families, and team members, ensuring HIPAA compliance.
• Participate in discharge planning and transition of care using available resources.
• Adhere to university, unit, and regulatory policies and safeguard assets.

Required profile

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program; BSN preferred (ASN acceptable with 2‑year BSN completion plan).
• Valid Florida RN license.
• Current ACLS and BLS certifications from the American Heart Association.
• Minimum one year of nursing experience.
• Knowledge of medical terminology, nursing care methods, and health‑safety guidelines.
