Registered Nurse 2 – Surgery Department

About the role

The Surgery department at the University of Miami is seeking a Registered Nurse 2 to deliver patient‑family centered care in a culturally competent, evidence‑based environment. The incumbent will oversee nursing and allied health staff while ensuring high standards of quality, safety, and service.

Key responsibilities

• Assess assigned patients, document nursing care, and modify treatment plans based on patient response and physician orders.
• Report symptoms, vital sign changes, and diagnostic test results to the care team.
• Consult with physicians and other professionals to develop, implement, and evaluate care plans.
• Prepare patients for examinations, procedures, and treatments, considering age and cultural factors.
• Administer medications and perform patient tests safely, maintaining accurate records.
• Communicate care plans to patients, families, and team members while complying with HIPAA and other regulations.
• Assist with discharge planning and serve as a preceptor for new staff.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
• Active Registered Nurse license.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Minimum two years of nursing experience.
