About the role

The Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, is seeking a Per Diem Registered Nurse (RN) to provide specialty nursing care within its Ambulatory Surgery Center. This role supports ophthalmic procedures, ensuring patient safety, comfort, and high‑quality clinical outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Assess patients, document nursing care, and report changes in condition and vital signs.
• Modify treatment plans based on patient response, physician orders, and diagnostic test results.
• Prepare patients for examinations, procedures, and treatments, considering age and cultural factors.
• Provide psychological support and maintain a compassionate environment.
• Administer medications and perform patient tests in accordance with scope of practice and regulatory guidelines.
• Communicate care plans to patients, families, and the healthcare team while ensuring HIPAA compliance.
• Assist with discharge planning and operate medical equipment safely.
• Serve as a preceptor for new staff, fostering skill development and adherence to unit policies.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
• Active Florida Registered Nurse license.
• Minimum two years of nursing experience, preferably in a surgical or ophthalmic setting.
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
