Registered Nurse 2 – Operating Room (Full Time)

About the role

The University of Miami is seeking a full‑time Registered Nurse (RN) to work in the Operating Room. The RN2 will provide patient‑centered, culturally competent care while supporting the surgical team and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.

Key responsibilities

• Assess assigned patients, document nursing care, and report changes in condition and vital signs.
• Modify treatment plans based on patient response, physician orders, and clinical judgment.
• Review and interpret diagnostic tests to evaluate patient status.
• Collaborate with physicians and other health professionals to develop and implement care plans.
• Prepare patients for examinations, procedures, and treatments, considering age and cultural factors.
• Provide psychological support and nurture a compassionate environment.
• Perform patient tests and safely administer medications within scope of practice.
• Maintain accurate medication and treatment records in accordance with regulatory guidelines.
• Communicate care plans to patients, families, and the care team while respecting HIPAA.
• Assist with discharge planning and utilize resources to facilitate patient transition.
• Prioritize assignments, seek assistance when needed, and ensure superior patient care.
• Operate medical equipment safely and serve as a preceptor for new staff.
• Adhere to university and unit policies, safeguarding institutional assets.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
• Minimum of 2 years of relevant nursing experience.
• Valid State of Florida RN license.
• Ability to learn new procedures, technologies, and adapt to changing priorities.
• Strong teamwork and collaborative skills.
