Recess & After School Care Leader

About the role

Community Roots Foundation is looking for an enthusiastic leader to supervise recess and run its Before & After School Program for K‑8 students. You will create a safe, engaging environment where children can play, learn, and develop social skills.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise students during recess, lunch, and after‑school periods, ensuring safety and positive interactions.
• Plan, prepare, and lead age‑appropriate projects, clubs, sports, games and special events based on student interests.
• Enforce program rules, apply consistent discipline, and use positive behavior strategies.
• Document observations, incidents and injuries; maintain accurate attendance and behavior logs.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent with at least 1 year of experience working with school‑age children.
• 12 college units in Child Development, Education, Recreation, Physical Education or Human Services (preferred).
• Ability to pass fingerprint clearance, TB test, pre‑employment physical and provide required immunizations.

Required skills

• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to manage groups, maintain order and implement engaging activities.
• Knowledge of child safety and California Community Care Licensing regulations.
