R&D Mechanical Engineer

About the role
Waygate Technologies, the world leader in non‑destructive testing, is seeking an R&D Mechanical Engineer to join its product development team. You will work on innovative mechanical products, from concept through validation, supporting the company’s portfolio of radiography, CT, ultrasound and other inspection technologies.
Key responsibilities
- Design and analyze mechanical components and systems using sound engineering principles.
- Lead end‑to‑end product development, including prototyping, testing, refinement and validation.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams—engineering, manufacturing, supply chain—to ensure designs meet cost, quality, reliability and manufacturability targets.
- Work with suppliers to optimise designs for production efficiency and cost.
- Conduct technical problem solving, prioritising critical issues and delivering timely solutions.
- Participate in design reviews, FMEA, and quality assurance activities.
- Support innovation by researching emerging technologies and contributing to patent reviews.
- Maintain accurate engineering documentation, including design records and analysis reports.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Minimum 1 year of engineering experience, preferably with new product introduction.
- Strong understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals and product design principles.
- Demonstrated problem‑solving ability focused on customer value.
Required skills
- Proficiency with 3D CAD software.
- Experience performing Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
