R&D Materials and Processes Engineer

About the role

BETA Technologies is seeking a Materials and Processes Engineer to support the development and manufacturing of vertical take‑off electric aircraft (eVTOL). The role blends R&D activities with hands‑on qualification of materials and processes to ensure efficient, high‑quality production.

Key responsibilities

• Guide design teams and collaborate with suppliers on material, component, and equipment selection.
• Optimize manufacturability, reduce cycle time, and define equipment requirements with manufacturing teams.
• Develop and execute material and process qualification test plans, and oversee testing.
• Audit internal and external facilities, support first‑article inspections, and manage NCR disposition.
• Write and review engineering documents, specifications, and process instructions.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Metallurgy, Materials or Aerospace Engineering.
• 5–10+ years of aerospace experience, preferably in product development and certification support.
• Strong problem‑solving ability, mechanical intuition, and collaborative mindset.
• Excellent written and verbal communication with internal and external stakeholders.

Required skills

• Materials qualification and process development for aerospace applications.
• Experience with composites, batteries, and/or electric motors.
• Knowledge of industry specifications, testing methods, and quality controls.
• Ability to write specifications, test plans, and test reports.
