About the role
Commonwealth Fusion Systems is seeking an R&D Engineer to develop high‑voltage systems for superconducting magnets used in fusion reactors. The role focuses on designing, building, and testing equipment that operates under high‑voltage transients in vacuum environments, supporting the SPARC/ARC magnet program.
Key responsibilities
- Design and develop high‑voltage system concepts, subsystems, and test samples.
- Build and commission test rigs and software required for R&D campaigns.
- Perform structural, electrical, and thermal analyses to predict performance and guide design decisions.
- Execute and lead test campaigns, analyze results, and resolve issues related to the Paschen effect and vacuum breakdown.
- Collaborate with manufacturing, procurement, and SPARC teams to align test objectives and data requirements.
Required profile
- Fundamental understanding of mechanical, electrical, materials, fluid, and software engineering principles.
- Experience with high‑voltage systems operating in vacuum environments.
- Ability to work across multidisciplinary teams on aggressive schedules.
