Railroad Technician

About the role

The Railroad Technician coordinates railcar and inventory movements at the Crockett, TX rail yard, ensuring timely and accurate transfers between railcars, bulk trucks, and silos. Working under general direction, the role requires strong safety focus, communication with contractors and internal teams, and the ability to resolve material movement issues.

Key responsibilities

• Direct or assist routing of inbound raw material rail shipments into the plant’s rail yard.
• Coordinate and schedule movement of empty and outbound railcars of finished product with Logistics.
• Facilitate outbound and inbound bulk truck shipments, ensuring full loads for customers.
• Serve as primary point of contact with the switching railroad when the Logistics Supervisor is unavailable.
• Operate the Shuttle Wagon Railcar Mover, using at least one spotter for safety.
• Maintain daily housekeeping standards in the rail yard.
• Inspect equipment daily and report issues to maintenance.
• Protect confidential customer information and adhere to plant safety policies.
• Collaborate with Warehouse Supervisor to investigate discrepancies and improve performance.

Required skills

• Experience with RTP ERP system (preferred).
• Operation of a forklift (must pass forklift test).
• Use of the Shuttle Wagon Railcar Mover.
• Familiarity with general office equipment (phones, intercom, copier, fax).
