About the role
The Radiation Therapy Technologist 1 delivers prescribed radiation treatments to patients in the Department of Radiation Oncology. The role includes patient positioning, equipment operation, and monitoring for side‑effects while providing emotional support as needed.
Key responsibilities
- Administer radiation doses to specific body parts using approved therapy equipment.
- Accurately position patients for treatment according to the physician’s prescription.
- Review prescriptions, diagnoses, patient charts, and identification before each session.
- Maintain detailed records of radiation dosages, equipment settings, and patient reactions.
- Observe clinical progress and report any signs of complications.
- Follow radiation protection principles for patients, staff, and the public.
- Operate computerized simulation and treatment machines safely and perform daily safety checks.
- Construct immobilization devices and apply custom blocking techniques for conformal therapy.
- Utilize imaging equipment and treatment planning systems for precise tumor localization.
- Collaborate with radiation oncologists and the therapy team to customize treatment plans.
Required profile
- Associate degree in a relevant field.
- Valid State of Florida Registered Radiation Therapy license (ARRT accreditation) and BLS certification.
- No prior experience required; entry‑level candidates are welcome.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Required skills
- Operation of radiation therapy equipment and treatment planning systems.
- Use of sophisticated imaging equipment for tumor localization.
- Construction of patient immobilization devices.
- Implementation of radiation safety and protection procedures.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) proficiency.
