Radiation Effects Scientist

About the role

Amentum, a partner to U.S. government agencies, allied governments and corporations, is seeking a Radiation Effects Scientist to assess and mitigate the impact of radiation on system performance. The work involves analyzing environments, transporting them through system enclosures, modeling radiation interactions with components and sensors, or testing microelectronic components such as integrated circuits, transistors, capacitors, inductors, resistors, diodes, analog circuits and other electronic parts.

Key responsibilities

• Support engineering decisions based on radiation effects on overall system performance.
• Design and harden systems against dose rate, total ionizing dose (TID), neutron displacement damage (NDD) and single event effects (SEE).
• Work with interdisciplinary teams to keep radiation hardening consistent across the product lifecycle.
• Assist in test plan development and review reports.
• Participate in Radiation Review Boards and help generate templates and guides.
• Help develop training materials and tools for new hires.
• Assist with testing efforts, test station setup and validation and verification.
• Collaborate on program requirements and give feedback on approaches to meet them.

Required profile

• Master's degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering or another relevant field.
• 10+ years of radiation engineering, electronic component testing or related experience.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret U.S. Government clearance; U.S. citizenship is required.
• Preferred: doctorate in Physics, Electrical Engineering or Nuclear Engineering, 10+ years of radiation engineering experience with the Department of Defense, and an active Secret clearance.
