Quality Specialist (New Product Focus)

About the role

ABB is hiring a Quality Specialist focused on new products for its Electrification Distribution Solutions Group in Pinetops, North Carolina. The role supports the deployment of the quality strategy for a local organizational unit, covering quality culture, systems, tools and competent teams, so that customer expectations are met and exceeded while ensuring sustainable operations. It is an onsite position.

Key responsibilities

• Lead New Product (NPI) quality projects using tools such as FMEA and Control Plans.
• Conduct root cause analyses and implement corrective actions using tools such as A3, 8D, 5Why, DMAIC, Fishbone and others, focusing on non-administrative solutions.
• Evaluate new and current products and processes and implement internal controls to ensure quality outputs.
• Support Engineering functions with product data and evaluations so products meet expectations throughout their lifecycle.
• Train operators and engineers in basic quality test and inspection routines to support quality-at-source.
• Take part in or lead internal product and process audits.
• Provide backup for laboratory analysis of epoxy, urethane and resin materials used in production.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in a STEM field preferred.
• 1 year of experience in a quality role within a manufacturing environment preferred.
• Sound knowledge of problem-solving methods such as 5Y, 8D, 3A, FMEA, Control Plans, APQP, Lean and Six Sigma.
• Organized and able to manage multiple competing priorities.
• Work authorization to work for ABB in the United States.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Familiarity with SAP, Windchill, Gensuite, Relex, Minitab or Power BI preferred.
• Certifications in Lean, Six Sigma, CQE or CQA are a plus; knowledge of SAP, Windchill or document control systems is a plus.
