Project Manager - Operations

About the role

ABB is hiring a Project Manager - Operations for its NAM Electrification Distribution Solutions operation in Pinetops, North Carolina. The role reports to the Manufacturing Unit Manager and involves managing the execution of medium-sized projects so that all activities follow procedures, regulations, standards, specifications and targets, and the project team delivers contracted deliverables within the planned schedule. The position is onsite.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor project execution and KPIs and ensure consistent execution across teams in the factory.
• Prioritize actions based on strategic alignment, value and resource capacity, and give leadership clear visibility into project progress.
• Develop an execution plan covering delivery, design, test and user documentation, product cost estimates, risk mitigation and operating procedures, with high-quality project status reporting.
• Create a framework for collaboration with Engineering, Product Management, Supply Chain Management, Laboratory, Technical Services, Operations and Quality Control.
• Maintain project management tools, follow up teams on their use, and automate reporting, workflows and documentation.
• Share periodic executive summaries with operational excellence, factory management, R&D leadership and product management.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in engineering (mechanical or electrical engineering required); a master's degree is acceptable.
• Minimum of 12-14 years of experience in project management and engineering management of electrical power systems product development (10+ years if holding a master's degree).
• Direct experience in the electrical/mechanical industry, in product development project management, factory operations project team management or in a power utility.
• Solid project management skills, proven ability to meet deadlines, and people management or supervisory experience.
• Ability to travel domestically and internationally, and US work authorization.

Required skills

• PM certification and experience managing stage-gate projects with a waterfall methodology.
• Additional experience with Agile product development methodology.
