Quality Assurance Technician - 3rd Shift

About the role

Champion Foods is looking for a Quality Assurance Technician for its 3rd shift in New Boston. Working under general supervision and following established policies and procedures, the technician monitors production procedures and parameters to make sure food products meet quality, safety and legal standards.

Key responsibilities

• Check and document data for the assigned product line (crust, topping, USDA).
• Check dough temperature and record it on the dough mixer; check that the metal detector is correct and recorded by the packer.
• Monitor the end of the production line so finished product weight and proper identification are printed on product shippers.
• Conduct product evaluations in the laboratory, including baking tests, specification parameters and texture analysis, and record findings.
• Calibrate thermometers, scales and pH meters daily.
• Perform microbiology testing, collect swab samples (APC, ATC, yeast and mold), and keep the lab and test bake areas clean.
• Perform environmental monitoring pathogen/surface swabs and other duties as required by the manager.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED.
• One year of experience in a food service or manufacturing environment.
• Ability to understand basic math such as fractions, ratios, temperature tolerances, multiplication and addition.
• Good oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to keep information confidential.
• Preferred: college coursework in Food Science or a related area (American Institute of Baking), knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), and previous food manufacturing or laboratory experience.

Working conditions include a fast-paced manufacturing environment, potentially high noise levels and abnormal temperatures in freezer and baking areas. The listed duties are illustrative and not contractual.
