Project Engineer III – Sustainability (Construction)

About the role
CLMI Group is looking for a Project Engineer III focused on sustainability to support the Los Angeles Community College District’s BuildLACCD capital improvement program. The role provides technical and engineering support for energy, decarbonization, and other sustainability‑related construction projects.
Key responsibilities
- Provide technical and engineering support to the BuildLACCD Program Management Office on sustainability and energy capital projects.
- Conduct field checks on construction, demolition, rehabilitation, and repair work to verify compliance with specifications, college standards, and DSA requirements.
- Read and interpret construction plans, shop drawings, and technical specifications for systems such as EIS platforms, LED lighting, BMS, central plant decarbonization, renewable energy, micro‑grid, and EV charging stations.
- Coordinate with project managers, contractors, architects, engineers, inspectors, and consultants across all active sustainability project scopes.
- Review, estimate, negotiate, and process construction change orders and field orders; enforce contract terms and approve invoices.
- Manage RFIs, submittals, and construction change documents; assess project risks and maintain risk registers.
- Generate meeting minutes, support weekly/monthly status reports, and maintain electronic and paper project files.
- Prepare scope of work documents, draft Proposed Board Actions, and assist in creating correspondence, reports, procedures, and guidelines.
Required profile
- Experience with sustainability‑focused capital construction projects.
- Familiarity with Division of the State Architect (DSA) requirements and college construction standards.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and technical specifications.
- Strong coordination skills with multidisciplinary project teams.

- Energy Information System (EIS) platform implementation.
- LED lighting design and integration.
- Building Management System (BMS) knowledge.
- Central plant decarbonization techniques.
- Renewable energy, micro‑grid, and EV charging station (EVCS) systems.
