Program Instructor - Central Texas Day Program

About the role

The Arc of the Capital Area is hiring a full-time Program Instructor for its Central Texas Day Program, which teaches the Art and Education Program for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The instructor leads a group with engaging lesson plans, builds positive relationships with staff, clients, families, the community and provider partners, keeps records and case notes in line with HIPAA regulations, and meets the goals set by the Art and Education Program Manager and Site Coordinator. The position is available Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm, in person at one of four campuses: Austin, Leander, Hutto or Marble Falls.

Key responsibilities

• Design, research, develop and implement an engaging curriculum for I/DD learners and lead a medium to large group through a robust education program
• Help the Education Manager with education, art studio, class instruction, client safety, client instruction, behavior redirection, volunteers and interns
• Help the Education Manager and Site Coordinator run the day-to-day activities of the art studio, gallery and education programs
• Write daily attendance and progress notes that meet contract provider billing guidelines
• Organize the classroom and supplies, build community relationships, and take part in fundraising

Required profile

• Experience teaching group classes and speaking to large groups
• Knowledge of computers, database software and Microsoft products
• Patience and knowledge of promoting skill development for people with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities
• High school diploma or equivalent; ID or driver's license and proof of car insurance
• Willingness to undergo a background check
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
