Produce Clerk

About the role

Fresh Thyme Market is hiring a Produce Clerk in Kirkwood. The Produce Clerk keeps the produce and floral departments stocked and clean during business hours, assists customers and maintains a friendly, energetic demeanor. All positions require doing daily job duties in addition to sales and customer service.

Key responsibilities

• Keep the produce, floral, storage and work areas clean and safe, including shelves, floors and hazardous debris.
• Stock the produce and floral departments, presenting and rotating products, facing and organizing items according to department schematics, and checking tag and pricing accuracy.
• Answer customer questions, help with purchases and product selection, and sell and cross-sell products.
• Receive, inspect and log incoming products for shipment accuracy, temperature and quality.
• Monitor point-of-purchase signs, recipe cards, coupons and promotional materials.
• Use equipment such as knives, scales, wrappers, compactors, garbage disposals, pallet jacks and hand trucks.
• Take part in pre-inventory preparation, back stock and the cut fruit and vegetable program.
• Walk the department regularly to keep it organized, sanitary and clean, and take responsibility for the department's sales and profitability.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Preferred: 1-2 years of grocery retail experience in floral department processes, and previous experience in a natural foods industry is a plus.
• Ability to work varied hours and days as business dictates.

Required skills

• Excellent customer service, attention to detail, multitasking and organizational skills.
• Basic knowledge of math, weights and measures.
• Ability to push and pull fully loaded hand trucks and use box cutters.
• Familiarity with Health Department guidelines for grocery retail.
