Process Engineer

About the role

Join 3M as a Process Engineer and work with innovative teams worldwide to develop, scale, and commercialize new products. You will apply engineering expertise to improve manufacturing processes, ensure product quality, and support equipment upgrades.

Key responsibilities

• Lead or support new product commercialization activities, including process development, scale‑up, validation, and manufacturing readiness.
• Serve as a technical resource for troubleshooting and resolving process issues related to conditions and material construction.
• Apply statistical and engineering methods to monitor, control, and improve process capability, reliability, and product consistency.
• Identify and lead initiatives to improve cost, quality, service, throughput, and yield.
• Support and implement improvements related to process safety, environmental performance, and equipment reliability.
• Evaluate capital planning needs and support equipment upgrades, modifications, and technology investments.
• Partner with cross‑functional teams to plan and execute process trials, experiments, and data‑driven improvement projects.
• Document technical findings, communicate recommendations clearly, and contribute to effective team decision‑making.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in an engineering or science discipline from an accredited institution.
• At least one year of combined experience in manufacturing and/or product/process development in a private, public, government, or military environment.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills.

Required skills

• Polymer processing, extrusion, compounding, web handling, coating, lamination, adhesives, roll‑to‑roll manufacturing.
• Continuous improvement, process scale‑up, equipment qualification, manufacturing optimization.
• Statistical process control, process capability analysis, design of experiments, root‑cause problem solving.
