Process Development Chemist - Peptide Manufacturing

About the role

PolyPeptide is hiring a full-time Process Development Chemist in Torrance, California. The role is hands-on in peptide manufacturing, covering advanced synthesis, purification and drying in a collaborative GMP environment. It suits a chemist who enjoys precision, ownership and seeing their work move from lab to customer.

Key responsibilities

• Execute peptide synthesis, purification and drying according to SOPs and Batch Production Records
• Set up and verify reactor systems, measure and mix ingredients accurately, and monitor reactions
• Perform intermediate processing steps and prepare solutions for purification
• Purify crude peptides using HPLC and conduct lyophilization and drying per validated procedures
• Run in-process analytical HPLC checks and communicate results to senior chemists
• Make basic go/no-go decisions, troubleshoot equipment or process issues, and maintain GMP compliance
• Support additional tasks as needed to meet production goals

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering
• 2+ years of professional experience in a pharmaceutical or biotechnology laboratory
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with minimal supervision, and to adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment
• Strong technical writing, organization, communication and multitasking skills

Required skills

• Hands-on experience with HPLC systems
• Working knowledge of cGMP environments and documentation
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams)

The work takes place in office, laboratory or GMP manufacturing settings; gowning and PPE are required, and occasional evening, weekend or overtime hours may be needed. Pay is listed as $30-$35 per hour.
