PRN Registration Specialist

About the role

UChicago Medicine AdventHealth is hiring a PRN Registration Specialist in Glendale Heights, Illinois, working day shifts (10 pm to 6:30 am) on alternating weekends and holidays. The role covers patient registration, insurance verification, payment collection and front-desk support.

Key responsibilities

• Perform Medicare compliance reviews and issue Advance Beneficiary Notices of Noncoverage as needed
• Create accurate estimates for patient financial responsibility and collect payments or set up payment plans
• Coordinate with utilization management staff on pre-authorization and contact insurers to verify eligibility and benefits
• Register patients for all services, collect demographic information and confirm insurance details
• Provide continuous coverage of assigned areas, arrange relief coverage and cover the switchboard as needed
• Manage communication between clinical, ancillary and access departments, document patient and insurer conversations, and attend department meetings
• Perform cashiering functions such as collections and cash reconciliation

Required profile

• High school graduate or equivalent (associate degree preferred)
• Bilingual English/Spanish
• 1+ year of customer service, relevant healthcare or revenue cycle experience preferred
• Preferred certifications: Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA) and Certified Revenue Cycle Rep (CRCR)

Required skills

• Working knowledge of Microsoft programs and familiarity with database programs
• Basic knowledge of medical terminology and hospital EMR systems
• Understanding of HIPAA and CMS guidelines
• Customer service and insurance benefits knowledge
