Principal Subject Matter Expert, Aviation Electronic Warfare Systems

About the role

Amentum is seeking an experienced Principal Subject Matter Expert (SME) to act as a senior program analyst and program management leader for advanced Aviation Electronic Warfare (EW) and Airborne Electronic Attack (AEA) initiatives for Naval Aviation. The role provides strategic leadership, program oversight, decision support and process improvement guidance for the development, testing and sustainment of automated test systems and electronic warfare capabilities used across the Fleet. The work is based onsite or hybrid in Patuxent River, Maryland.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as a senior advisor to government leadership on program priorities, resource allocation and long-term planning, and lead cross-functional teams through complex program challenges.
• Shape program strategy, influence key decisions and support modernization initiatives across EW, AEA and aviation sustainment portfolios.
• Lead development of program schedules, budgets, acquisition plans and resource forecasts, and coordinate engineering, logistics, test, financial and contracting teams.
• Identify program risks, constraints and dependencies and deliver mitigation strategies; support long-range planning documents, program reviews and decision packages.
• Analyze cost, schedule and performance metrics across EW and AEA projects, build dashboards and executive briefings (e.g., Power BI), and explain variances between planned and actual results.
• Track and forecast program budgets, support cost-benefit analysis and ROI assessments, and recommend ways to optimize resource use.
• Ensure compliance with DoD acquisition policies and Naval Aviation processes, support audits, risk assessments and documentation reviews, and prepare executive presentations, white papers and decision documents.
• Facilitate communication among government sponsors, engineering teams, test activities, vendors and Fleet operators, and lead adoption of project management systems and reporting platforms.

Required profile

• 10+ years of experience in Naval Aviation in electronic warfare systems, avionics, RF systems or automated test equipment.
• Experienced leader in program analysis, program management or acquisition support roles within defense or aviation.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Secret security clearance (U.S. citizenship required).
• Demonstrated experience developing and managing project plans, budgets and resource forecasts.
• Proven experience delivering high-impact executive-level reports and presentations.
• Experience supporting or leading audits, risk assessments and documentation reviews.

Preferred qualifications

• DAU Level III Program Management certification.
