Principal Software Engineer (Remote)

About the role

The Software Engineer Principal for store selling systems joins a product team and contributes to software design, development and the full product lifecycle. The role is highly collaborative, with pair programming, cross-team support, work with third-party vendors and the open-source community, and mentoring of junior engineers. It is a remote position.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver and execute: pair with UX, engineering and product management to build secure, reliable, scalable software; write custom code and scripts for infrastructure, monitoring, test cases and destructive testing; set up dashboards, logging and alerting; document code and architecture, and define service level objectives
• Support and enablement: answer questions from other product teams, monitor production service levels, triage high-priority issues and outages, and work with vendors and the open-source community on feature enhancements
• Learning: lead learning activities on modern software design and development, learn new technologies, and attend conferences

Required profile

• At least 6 years of relevant work experience
• Legal permission to work in the United States; age 18 or older
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a related field
• Preferred: mastery of a modern programming language (Java), Spring MVC and Quarkus, data engineering at scale, microservices and event-driven design, Git, Linux, CI/CD, cloud platforms, RESTful services, test-driven development, and the 12-factor methodology

What we offer

• Pay range of $140,000 to $240,000 for residents of California, Colorado, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Nevada, New York City, Ithaca (NY), Westchester County (NY) and Washington
• Typically less than 10% overnight travel
