Principal Software Engineer, Data Architecture

About the role

Mastercard’s Data & Analytics organization is looking for a visionary Principal Software Engineer to shape and advance its global data architecture strategy. Reporting to the Vice President of Data Engineering, you will act as the senior technical authority for how data is designed, governed, secured, and delivered across a complex, multinational ecosystem.

Key responsibilities

• Define and evolve Mastercard’s enterprise data architecture across hybrid‑cloud and on‑premises environments.
• Partner with senior technology leaders to translate business strategy into scalable, secure, and resilient data solutions.
• Champion Data Mesh principles, enabling data‑as‑a‑product, federated ownership, and self‑service access.
• Lead modernization of legacy platforms to cloud‑native architectures on AWS, Azure, and GCP.
• Drive adoption of modern data technologies such as Databricks, Snowflake, Delta Lake, and streaming platforms.
• Ensure solutions meet global regulatory mandates including GDPR, ISO 20022, and regional data‑localization requirements.
• Participate in the Data & Analytics Architecture Review Board to set standards, design patterns, and best practices.

Required profile

• Proven senior technical leadership experience in enterprise data architecture.
• Deep understanding of hybrid‑cloud environments and data‑platform modernization.
• Track record of influencing executive stakeholders and driving cross‑functional initiatives.
• Experience with regulatory compliance and data security at scale.
