Principal Software Engineer - Confluence AI

About the role

Atlassian is hiring a Principal Software Engineer for its Confluence AI group. You will lead the development of high-quality AI experiences that help teams create, discover and collaborate on knowledge, shaping technical strategy across the full stack and working with product, design, engineering, analytics and machine learning teams.

Key responsibilities

• Drive complex technical decisions and lead the largest, most complex initiatives from architecture and prototyping through launch and iteration
• Set technical direction across user experiences, backend services and AI integrations, balancing speed, quality and maintainability
• Design scalable, resilient systems meeting performance, reliability, security and cost requirements
• Apply advances in generative AI, retrieval, agents and evaluation to improve the accuracy and consistency of AI experiences
• Build quality into the product lifecycle through automated evaluations, test datasets, user feedback and production monitoring
• Partner with machine learning and platform teams on grounding, context retrieval, orchestration and safeguards
• Build intuitive full-stack experiences and define measures of AI quality, activation, retention and customer value
• Mentor engineers across levels and raise engineering standards through design reviews and hands-on contributions

What we offer

• Base pay for new hires: Zone A $209,700-$273,775, Zone B $188,730-$246,398, Zone C $174,051-$227,233; in Canada CA$172,800-CA$225,600
