Principal Scientist – Operations Research & Decision Science

About the role

Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine seeks a hands‑on Principal Scientist to lead the design, build and scaling of simulation, optimization, digital‑twin and decision‑support capabilities for Therapeutics Development & Supply. The role bridges complex manufacturing, portfolio and clinical supply processes with rigorous computational models.

Key responsibilities

• Formulate and solve optimization problems for portfolio prioritization, capacity planning and resource scheduling using linear, mixed‑integer, stochastic and multi‑objective methods.
• Design, validate and maintain digital twins of TDS and CSC operations, employing discrete‑event, Monte Carlo, agent‑based and system‑dynamics simulations.
• Develop reusable modeling workflows and decision‑support products in Python, applying software‑engineering best practices and integrating with enterprise data platforms.
• Partner with cross‑functional leaders to define decision requirements, communicate model assumptions and mentor technical teams.

Required profile

• Advanced degree (MSc or PhD) in Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Applied Mathematics or a related quantitative field.
• 5+ years applying optimization, simulation or stochastic modeling to complex operational problems.
• Proven record of delivering computational models that influence major business decisions.
• Ability to lead technically while remaining a hands‑on contributor.
