Principal Scientist, Lab Head, Immunology, Cell Therapy

About the role

The Department of Immunology Discovery at Genentech is looking for a Principal Scientist / Lab Head to lead a research group focused on designing next-generation cell therapies for autoimmune diseases. The leader will run a productive team, integrate work across cross-functional groups to find new targets and therapeutic hypotheses, and move therapeutics from preclinical studies into early clinical development. The role suits someone with strong knowledge of cellular immunology and excellent communication skills.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage a highly productive research team
• Generate high-quality, original research that advances understanding of autoimmune disease
• Contribute directly to the initiation and advancement of novel pipeline projects
• Take part in cross-functional teams evaluating external business development opportunities to accelerate the cell therapy pipeline

Required profile

• PhD and postdoctoral training in Immunology, Cell Biology or a related field
• At least 5 years of post-PhD experience
• Record of high-impact publications (preprints considered), patents and/or a track record of moving candidates from pipeline entry to early clinical development
• Demonstrated expertise in cellular immunology and its pathways in autoimmune disease
• Leadership, collaboration with multidisciplinary teams and excellent written and verbal communication

Preferred qualifications

• Expertise in both B cell and T cell biology
• Experience engineering, modifying and functionally evaluating human immune cells
• Experience with mouse models, including humanized models

What we offer

• Salary range of $143,200 to $265,900 for the California location, depending on experience and qualifications; a discretionary annual bonus may be available
