Preventative Maintenance Foreman – Seasonal Antarctic Contract

About the role

Amentum is hiring a Preventative Maintenance Foreman for a seasonal contract supporting the National Science Foundation's United States Antarctic Program under the Antarctic Support Contract (ASC). The Foreman supervises and performs corrective and preventative maintenance or construction tasks, or a combination, under the supervision of the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor or Assistant Facilities Maintenance Supervisor, according to the ASC schedule.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise the Preventative Maintenance Shop and its personnel, and assign duties to subordinates
• Perform hands-on diagnosis, repair and scheduled preventative maintenance on facilities, equipment, systems and infrastructure
• Support installation and commissioning of equipment and systems, and plan maintenance tasks
• Coordinate bench stock supplies, track hours, materials and labour, and submit accurate timesheets and work orders
• Respond to emergency service calls during and outside normal hours, and advise the supervisor on progress and resource needs
• Interact with the National Science Foundation, military and other agency officials, and document work thoroughly
• Follow and help improve Standard Operating Procedures, and interpret drawings, schematics and specifications
• Inspect worksites, identify hazards and code violations, and provide performance feedback and end-of-season evaluations to HR
• Help order resupply materials, and comply with environmental, safety, health, waste management and quality assurance requirements
• Deploy to remote research support facilities (McMurdo only) and work outdoors in extreme cold

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED
• At least six years of documented experience in preventive and corrective maintenance, including industrial and commercial facilities, refrigeration, HVAC, combustion heating appliances, plumbing and electrical; at least three of those years in a lead, supervisor or foreman role
• Experience with oil-fired combustion heating appliances (South Pole); preferred: McMurdo experience
• Ability to lift and move equipment and to climb in and out of equipment, crawl and work outdoors in extreme cold
• Willingness to deploy to Antarctica for extended periods, and to pass medical, dental, drug screening, background checks and obtain facility credentials (US citizenship required)
