Prep Cook - Long Beach Convention Center

About the role

Legends Global, which manages public assembly facilities, has an immediate opening for a Prep Cook at the Long Beach Convention and Entertainment Center. The position prepares food items in the kitchen and/or concessions, follows food safety standards and supports food service operations for the facility. It is a part-time role reporting to the Executive Chef or Sous Chef, paid $25.75 per hour. Employees are covered by a collective bargaining agreement with Unite Here Local 11, and union membership is a condition of employment.

Key responsibilities

• Set up stations and gather supplies to prepare the menu for service.
• Label and date food items for storage and stock food products to keep service smooth during events.
• Follow standard portion sizes, cooking methods, quality standards and kitchen rules and procedures.
• Use food preparation tools according to manufacturer instructions and perform opening, side and closing duties.
• Maintain a clean, organized and sanitary work area and assist with cleaning, sanitizing and organizing the kitchen, walk-in coolers and storage areas.
• Handle food safely and hygienically, return dirty utensils to their places and store products properly.
• Perform additional duties as requested by the Executive Chef or Sous Chef.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED; must be 18 or older.
• At least 1 year of experience preparing meals in food service.
• Current ServeSafe certification.
• Flexible hours, including nights, weekends and holidays as required.
• Able to stand and walk for long periods, lift up to 25 lbs to waist height, and work inside or outside the building; may be exposed to loud sounds.

• Strong knowledge of sanitary practices and customer service orientation.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks with attention to detail and to collaborate with other staff.
