Prep Cook – In‑School (No Weekends/Holidays) – Bronx, NY

About the role

The In‑school Prep Cook joins a small team of 3‑5 staff members to prepare healthy, made‑from‑scratch meals for hundreds of students each day. The position offers stable daytime hours, Monday‑Friday, with weekends and holidays off.

Key responsibilities

• Read daily menu production sheets and understand required quantities.
• Work with the Head Chef to prioritize and schedule menu items.
• Portion, weigh, cook, cool, and plate dishes according to Red Rabbit recipes and food‑safety standards.
• Pack and distribute meals to students, ensuring compliance with portion sizes and school timing.
• Track production counts to minimize waste and meet compliance reporting.
• Maintain a clean kitchen that exceeds Department of Health standards.
• Represent Red Rabbit’s values when interacting with school staff and students.

Required profile

• 2+ years of professional culinary experience in a fast‑paced environment (restaurant, commissary, school or hospital cafeteria).
• Demonstrated knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.
• ServeSafe certification (required within 90 days of hire, reimbursement available).
• Ability to lift 50 lb regularly and perform physical kitchen duties.
• Strong English reading/writing skills; bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.
• Self‑motivated, organized, and able to work calmly in a team.
