Precision 5-Axis CNC Machinist

About the role

Join 3M’s innovative manufacturing team in Minnesota as a Precision 5-Axis CNC Machinist. You will work alongside skilled machinists and engineers to produce high‑precision micro‑replication tooling for a wide range of 3M businesses.

Key responsibilities

• Set up cutting tools and associated equipment on multi‑axis CNC machines.
• Perform test cuts to determine machine offsets and process parameters.
• Conduct metrology and inspections to verify that machined parts meet specifications.
• Provide feedback to engineering on machining plans and results.
• Execute minor maintenance and troubleshoot milling equipment.
• Complete on‑the‑job training on weekdays before transitioning to a first‑shift weekend schedule.

Required profile

• Two‑year degree or higher in Machine Tool Technology (or equivalent).
• At least one year of combined precision machining experience on CNC lathes and/or mills, including programming and editing G‑code.
• Experience in a private, public, government, or military environment.

Required skills

• CNC programming using G‑code, macros, and CAM software.
• Proficiency with Siemens NX CAD/CAM.
• Diamond‑machining on multi‑axis CNC machines.
• Precision metrology methods such as interferometry, profilometry, and confocal microscopy.
• Troubleshooting and minor maintenance of milling equipment.
