Power Systems Engineer, Battery R&D

About the role

BETA Technologies is seeking a Senior Power Systems Engineer to own the high‑voltage protection system for its electric aircraft. You will lead the design, analysis, testing and certification of HV protection, working across mechanical, electrical and software teams.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain fuse coordination and fault protection models for the aircraft HV system.
• Design and execute full‑scale protection tests, specify DAQ hardware, run tests and refine models based on data.
• Integrate battery and protection models with aircraft‑level simulations to enable system trades.
• Collaborate with the high‑voltage mechanical team to translate modeling insights into aircraft design.
• Support certification efforts by working with software, electrical and systems engineering groups.

Required profile

• PhD or Master’s degree with 5+ years of relevant experience in electrical engineering, physics or a related field.
• 5+ years building and validating real‑world system models in MATLAB/Simulink or Python.
• Experience with power‑systems and high‑voltage protections, both active and passive.
• Track record of contributions to HV system design in EV or HVDC applications.
• Ability to synthesize large, complex data sets into actionable engineering insights.
