Power Engineer – Electrical Safety Engineering

About the role

ETAP is seeking a Power Engineer for its Electrical Safety Engineering Division in Irvine, CA. The role focuses on ensuring safety, reliability, and performance of power systems through advanced analysis, protection design, and technical support.

Key responsibilities

• Apply electrical engineering principles for protection and coordination, relay testing, and equipment protection.
• Design, implement, analyze, and troubleshoot protection schemes such as overcurrent, distance relays, and generator/motor protection.
• Perform power system safety analyses, including load flow and short‑circuit studies.
• Develop and execute quality‑assurance test procedures, documenting and validating software issues.
• Use engineering tools like MATLAB®, Simulink®, Mathcad, and power system analysis software for analysis and testing.
• Interpret software‑based protection systems and data‑collection protocols.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to support project development and execution.
• Provide technical support to customers, addressing product inquiries and troubleshooting.
• Prepare technical documentation, reports, and status updates.
• Contribute to training and knowledge‑sharing within the team.
