Postdoctoral Researcher – AI & Coastal Digital Twins

About the role

The Postdoctoral Researcher will join LSU's Coupled Ocean Modeling Group to advance research at the intersection of AI, coastal science, and digital twin technologies. You will work on high‑impact projects that transform flood forecasting data into immersive, interactive tools for urban and natural coastal environments.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and apply numerical and AI/ML methods to integrate high‑resolution geospatial data, flood models, and street‑level digital twin platforms (≈65%).
• Collaborate with faculty, graduate students, and external partners on interdisciplinary research initiatives (≈20%).
• Prepare manuscripts, technical reports, and conference presentations to disseminate findings (≈10%).
• Perform additional duties as assigned (≈5%).

Required profile

• Ph.D. in Oceanography, Coastal Engineering, Computer Science, Computational Sciences, Computer Graphics, Digital Media, or a closely related field.
• Demonstrated expertise in coastal/ocean modeling, flood forecasting, or environmental simulation.
• Experience integrating AI/ML into scientific modeling or visualization workflows.
• Familiarity with digital twin frameworks, XR/VR/AR pipelines, or spatial computing.
