Postdoctoral Fellow, Immunology Discovery (Kapadia Lab)

About the role

A Postdoctoral Fellowship is available in the laboratory of Dr. Sharookh Kapadia in the Department of Immunology Discovery at Genentech. The fellowship seeks a highly motivated, independent scientist to lead research identifying novel biology in chronic inflammatory lung diseases such as COPD, bronchiectasis, pulmonary fibrosis and inflammatory airway disorders. The fellow joins the Genentech postdoctoral training program, which offers a drug-development-focused environment, collaboration across departments, presentation to project teams and contribution to scientific publications.

Key responsibilities

• Explore the drivers of COPD pathophysiology by combining in vitro screens with in vivo trait-based models exposed to clinically relevant viral, bacterial and allergen exposures.
• Identify and characterize causal nodes driving disease pathophysiology, contributing to the lab's goal of finding novel therapeutic targets for acute and chronic respiratory diseases.
• Collaborate with researchers across departments, present work to project teams and contribute to scientific publications.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in immunology, microbiology or cellular/molecular biology.
• Consistent track record of independently running laboratory experiments and advancing at least one key research project, shown by a first-author paper published or accepted in a leading peer-reviewed journal.
• Deep scientific and technical expertise in epithelial, endothelial or innate immunity; eagerness to bridge basic mechanisms and therapeutic development.

Preferred qualifications

• Experience working with infectious agents (viruses, bacteria, fungi) and a solid foundation in innate and adaptive immunology and in vivo mouse work.
• Computational and lung biology experience.
