Postdoctoral Fellow – Imaging Technology and Compound Screening
roche · South San Francisco
Job description
About the role
Genentech's Regev and Singh labs are looking for a highly motivated, independent scientist to pioneer high-throughput platforms that reveal compound effects across diverse model systems and speed up the path from molecule to medicine. The goal is to push image-based profiling further by developing experimental and computational methods that capture richer measurements of cellular state and extend compound screening to a wider range of models. The position is hands-on, combining assay development at the bench with reasoning about the analytical and AI methods needed to interpret the data.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and optimize high-plex imaging assays that capture multiplexed readouts of cell state and morphology.
- Develop computational approaches that expand the information extracted from each sample and improve the quality of imaging-based measurements.
- Design and run large-scale compound screens across disease-relevant model systems, producing multimodal readouts of cellular response.
- Apply single-cell and multi-omics style analyses to map perturbation relationships and prioritize promising compounds.
- Use laboratory automation and high-throughput workflows to design, run and learn from screens at scale.
- Collaborate with experimental and computational scientists across departments, present work to project teams and contribute to high-impact publications.
Required profile
- Ph.D. with a proven track record in single-cell genomics, imaging, bioengineering, biophysics, quantitative biology or a related field, with hands-on experimental expertise.
- Advanced at least one key research project, evidenced by a first-author paper published or accepted in a leading peer-reviewed journal.
- Strong hands-on experience in microscopy and quantitative imaging; multiplexed, high-content or optical pooled screening experience is a plus.
- Computational expertise in image analysis and machine learning, with a track record of developing or adapting methods.
- Fluent in Python or a comparable language.
- Independent scientist with excellent communication skills, who works well within a team.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience developing or deploying multiplexed imaging assays.
- Experience applying AI/ML to imaging or other high-dimensional biological data.
- Experience with laboratory automation, liquid handling and high-throughput workflows.
- Experience analyzing large-scale perturbation datasets and integrating multimodal data.
What we offer
- Expected salary of $100,000 to $106,500, depending on experience, qualifications and location.
- Competitive salary and fully funded research expenses.
- Access to the Genentech Postdoctoral Program, with seminars, professional development workshops and networking.
- Mentorship and support to become an independent scientist.
- Relocation benefits are available.
