About the role
The University of Miami seeks a Postdoctoral Associate to conduct biomedical research on neural circuits controlling breathing and movement, focusing on spinal cord injury and related neurological conditions.
Key responsibilities
- Design and perform experiments using whole-body plethysmography, EMG, electrophysiology, calcium imaging, viral circuit mapping, and optogenetic/chemogenetic neuromodulation.
- Conduct survival surgeries, viral vector injections, neural and muscle recordings, behavioral testing, tissue collection, histology, and microscopy.
- Analyze respiratory, electrophysiological, imaging, anatomical, and locomotor data with computational and statistical methods.
- Maintain research records, regulatory documentation, and ensure compliance with IACUC, biosafety, and university policies.
- Prepare manuscripts, abstracts, presentations, and contribute to grant applications.
Required profile
- Ph.D. in neuroscience, neurobiology, physiology, biomedical engineering, or a related field.
- Prior research experience in neuroscience, neurophysiology, respiratory physiology, motor control, or spinal cord injury.
- Strong experimental design, troubleshooting, and quantitative analysis skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment.
Required skills
- In vivo electrophysiology/EMG, whole-body plethysmography, calcium imaging, viral vector techniques.
- Optogenetics or chemogenetics, stereotaxic or spinal surgery.
- Histology, microscopy, quantitative data analysis.
- Programming or analysis tools such as MATLAB, Python, R, or Spike2.
