Postdoctoral Associate – Bioinformatics & Machine Learning

About the role

The University of Miami’s Department of Public Health Sciences is seeking a motivated Postdoctoral Associate to join a bioinformatics research lab. The position focuses on developing and evaluating computational methods for large‑scale genomics and multi‑omics data.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement, and benchmark machine‑learning and deep‑learning models for biological datasets.
• Process and analyze genomics, transcriptomics (bulk, single‑cell, spatial), epigenomics, proteomics, and other multi‑omics data.
• Build data preprocessing and feature‑engineering pipelines in Python.
• Collaborate with wet‑lab scientists to interpret results and contribute to publications.
• Maintain code in Linux environments using Git and leverage HPC or cloud resources for large‑scale computation.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Data Science or a related discipline.
• Strong programming experience in Python.
• Solid understanding of machine‑learning fundamentals, deep‑learning architectures (CNN, RNN, Transformers) and model evaluation.
• Knowledge of genomics and related biological concepts.
• Experience with large datasets and numerical libraries (NumPy, Pandas, SciPy).
