Portfolio Analyst – Venture Capital

About the role

American Express Ventures is seeking a motivated Portfolio Analyst to join its Portfolio Management group in New York. The analyst will support the monitoring, analysis, and reporting of the firm’s early‑stage investment portfolio, helping senior leadership make data‑driven decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with quarterly portfolio reporting and prepare updates for the Ventures team and senior management.
• Support portfolio review and valuation processes, including impairment and mark‑to‑market assessments.
• Handle controllership, regulatory, and compliance deliverables related to the portfolio.
• Analyze portfolio, market, and industry data to generate insights for senior leaders.
• Maintain the Ventures portfolio database and management platform.
• Track performance against benchmarks, goals, and success metrics.
• Document portfolio and transaction standards and coordinate with Finance, Legal, and Compliance teams.
• Respond to investment data requests from business partners and contribute to new initiatives that improve strategy or efficiency.
• Explore automation opportunities using new tools and AI.

Required profile

• 1–2 years of experience in a financial or operational role, with familiarity with financial statements.
• Comfortable working with large data sets and synthesizing insights.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Analytical mindset with valuation experience.
