Polysomnographic Technologist 3 – Full Time

About the role

The University of Miami’s Bascom Palmer Eye Institute is seeking a full‑time Polysomnographic Technologist 3 to conduct sleep studies, support patients with sleep‑related disorders, and ensure accurate data collection and reporting.

Key responsibilities

• Monitors brain waves, eye movements, muscle activity, breathing variables and blood oxygen levels during sleep using specialized recording equipment.
• Provides support services for sleep‑related problems, including assisting patients with positive airway pressure (PAP) devices and promoting good sleep habits.
• Gathers and analyzes patient information and physician orders to ensure the appropriate test is performed.
• Explains sleep study procedures to patients and prepares/calibrates equipment as needed.
• Applies electrodes and sensors, performs calibrations, fits PAP masks and ensures correct pressure and oxygen administration.
• Scores sleep and wake stages and clinical events according to accepted guidelines and center‑specific protocols.
• Generates accurate reports, maintains equipment, and manages sleep‑study inventory.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or equivalent with relevant experience or certification.
• RPSGT (Registered Polysomnographic Technologist) certification.
• Minimum three years of relevant polysomnography experience.
• Demonstrated learning agility, teamwork, technical proficiency with office software, and strong written and verbal communication.

Required skills

• Operation of polysomnography recording equipment.
• Application of electrodes and sensors, including proper placement and calibration.
• Positive airway pressure (PAP) mask fitting and pressure management.
• Scoring of sleep stages and clinical events using professional guidelines.
