Police Officer (Levels 1-3) – LSU Police Department

About the role

This commissioned law‑enforcement position serves as a uniformed or plain‑clothes member of the LSU Police Department, providing safety across the main campus and off‑site facilities. Officers are assigned to various units and may work in patrol, traffic, investigations, special events, or emergency response.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct proactive patrols, respond to calls for service, and prepare incident reports (35%).
• Enforce state motor‑vehicle laws, investigate crashes, and manage traffic controls (30%).
• Attend shift briefings, complete required training, and operate police vehicles (10%).
• Support large‑crowd events, manage security access systems, and handle fire or hazardous‑materials incidents (10%).
• Participate in emergency response for medical incidents, hurricanes, floods, bomb threats, and other catastrophes (5%).

Required profile

• Police Officer 1 – entry level, no prior experience required, age 18+, valid Louisiana driver’s license, willingness to obtain POST certification.
• Police Officer 2 – at least one year of law‑enforcement experience (or college credit substitution), age 18+, valid driver’s license, POST certification may be required.
• Police Officer 3 – at least two years of law‑enforcement experience (or up to 60 semester‑hour substitution), age 18+, valid driver’s license, POST certification may be required.
• All candidates must pass background checks, drug screens, and possess a valid driver’s license; felony convictions disqualify until relief is granted.
