Police Officer (Levels 1-3)

About the role

The LSU Police Department is seeking qualified candidates for the positions of Police Officer 1, 2, or 3. Officers serve as uniformed or plain‑clothes members providing safety and law‑enforcement services across the LSU campus and its off‑site facilities. The role involves a mix of patrol, response, investigation, and administrative duties.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct proactive patrols to protect lives and property and respond to calls for service.
• Detect and investigate suspicious activities, incidents, accidents, and criminal acts.
• Prepare detailed incident and traffic‑crash reports for supervisory review.
• Testify in court as a witness or to present evidence.
• Enforce state motor‑vehicle traffic laws and manage traffic control at campus projects.
• Attend shift briefings, law‑enforcement training, and departmental meetings.
• Operate police vehicles and comply with departmental orders and university policies.

Required profile

• Commissioned law‑enforcement officer eligible for uniformed or plain‑clothes assignment.
• Ability to work rotating shifts and respond to emergencies at any time.
• Physical fitness meeting departmental standards.
• Strong written communication skills for incident reporting.
• Willingness to perform administrative duties, attend events, and conduct witness interviews.
