About the role

The University Police Department at East Texas A&M University seeks a Police Officer to provide professional law‑enforcement services to the campus community, ensuring safety, preventing crime, and responding to incidents.

Key responsibilities

• Patrol designated areas by vehicle, foot, or bicycle to deter crime, enforce laws, and manage traffic.
• Respond to calls, investigate incidents, secure crime scenes, gather evidence, and make arrests.
• Write detailed reports, testify in court, serve warrants, and provide information to faculty, staff, and students.
• Maintain firearms and emergency equipment, operate police radio and vehicle safely, and attend continuing education.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent plus 12 college credit hours, or one year of active U.S. military service.
• Valid driver’s license with a good record and a Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) license.
• Ability to pass TCOLE medical and psychological examinations and undergo background, polygraph, and drug testing.
• Fluent in American English with strong interpersonal and organizational skills.

• Proficiency in using police radios, firearms, and related emergency equipment.
• Ability to write clear, detailed incident reports.
• Competence in conducting investigations, gathering evidence, and interviewing witnesses.
