Plumber - Seasonal Contract (Winter 2027)

About the role

Amentum is hiring plumbers for a seasonal contract position supporting the National Science Foundation's United States Antarctic Program as part of the Antarctic Support Contract (ASC). Plumbers perform plumbing maintenance or construction tasking, or a combination of both, under the supervision of the Plumbing Foreman, with tasking driven by the ASC schedule. The work takes place in extreme cold and windy conditions, and may involve deploying to remote research support facilities.

Key responsibilities

• Cut, fit, connect and install plumbing piping, equipment, fixtures and systems in line with the Uniform Plumbing Code
• Diagnose, repair and carry out scheduled preventative maintenance on existing plumbing systems
• Maintain plumbing systems inside and outside buildings, and respond promptly to emergency calls during and outside normal hours
• Document hours worked, tasking, materials and processes accurately, and advise the supervisor on progress and needs
• Work from job plans, schematics, blueprints, vendor manuals and specifications, following SOPs and suggesting improvements
• Identify hazards, work with other departments, and use computer-based labour, material and maintenance tracking apps
• Comply with ASC environmental, safety, health, waste management and quality assurance requirements, and take part in community programs such as house-mouse, daisy-picking and recycling

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED
• Current Journeyman Plumber (8,000-hour) or Master Plumber license, or equivalent
• Union membership in good standing
• At least four years of documented experience in all phases of the plumbing trade, including piping, fixture installation and service and repair
• Willingness and ability to deploy to Antarctica for extended periods, with medical, dental, drug screening, background checks and a US driver's license
• US citizenship required to obtain facility credentials at this location

Required skills

• Knowledge of plumbing principles and the Uniform Plumbing Code
• Ability to read and interpret design drawings and specifications
• Preferred: experience with copper, PEX, PVC, galvanized steel, black iron, GRE and HDPE pipes, hydronic piping, commercial/industrial facilities, backflow prevention certification, Maximo or Microsoft Office
