Platform Architect - Data Center Infrastructure
Serverfarm
Job description
About the role
Serverfarm is a developer and operator of data centers with over 750 locations and customers in 45 countries, now part of Manulife Investment Management. It is building a new InCommand platform, a cloud-delivered, API-first solution for modern data centers and AI infrastructure, and is looking for a hands-on Platform Architect to design its foundation and write the first code with AI-assisted tooling. The role partners closely with Product Management, Integrations and Developer Platform.
Key responsibilities
- Build the control plane and tenancy foundation of the new platform, written with coding agents and engineers, and own the first code merged.
- Design and own the unified data model, publish it as a public API specification, and define the architecture around it (data stores, identity and multi-tenancy, API layer).
- Own retrieval and query performance at telemetry scale, including storage choices, query patterns, latency targets and tenant isolation.
- Choose the technology stack and platform standards, and recommend the cloud and how the platform stays portable.
- Design how the platform integrates large language models and other AI services to deliver operational intelligence.
- Define, with Integrations, the contract by which site data enters the platform.
- Give technical direction to engineers joining the platform in its first months and set the patterns the team builds on.
Required profile
- 10+ years building back-end and platform systems; in the last three years, personally shipped a multi-tenant SaaS platform or control plane on Kubernetes as the technical decision-maker.
- Designed the domain data model for a complex operational system (assets, hierarchies, time series, events) and owned its evolution, including compatibility, versioning and migration decisions.
- Delivered retrieval performance at telemetry scale, meeting API latency targets.
- Senior individual contributor on a platform's foundational production code.
Required skills
- Hands-on experience with a major public cloud (GCP, AWS or Azure) with Kubernetes and Helm.
- Identity, tenancy and security by design in enterprise SaaS.
- Published an API or data-model specification used by other teams and written architecture decisions engineers followed.
- Preferred: agentic coding tools, Kafka-compatible streaming (Kafka, Redpanda) and MQTT brokers, OpenTelemetry instrumentation, LLM integration, and experience shipping software as a cloud service and in customer-hosted or air-gapped environments.
