Plant Research Growth Facility Manager

About the role

The University of Maryland seeks a Plant Research Growth Facility Manager to oversee daily operations of its Research Greenhouse Complex and Plant Sciences buildings. The role ensures optimal plant care, space allocation, and compliance with safety standards while supporting research activities.

Key responsibilities

• Manage greenhouse and growth chamber operations, including bench and chamber space assignments, environmental controls, and equipment maintenance.
• Supervise, train, and schedule greenhouse staff, handling performance monitoring and administrative tasks such as timesheet approvals.
• Purchase, inventory, and record plant care supplies, ensuring compliance with state and federal pesticide regulations.
• Lead tours for internal and external stakeholders and serve as a guest lecturer for related classes.
• Collaborate with the Facilities Manager to address maintenance needs and monitor space usage and bench charges.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Plant Science or a related field (preferred).
• Experience with automated greenhouse control systems (e.g., Priva, Wadsworth).
• Knowledge of Integrated Pest Management and pesticide licensing requirements.
• Ability to prioritize tasks, communicate effectively, and work with campus departments.
• Forklift operation ability or willingness to obtain training within six months.
