Plant Maintenance Mechanic (1st or 2nd Shift)

About the role

Axalta is hiring a Plant Maintenance Mechanic in Houston, Texas, to oversee maintenance activities and keep production equipment reliable, safe and performing well. The role suits candidates with 7-10 years of industrial maintenance experience and covers the first or second shift, Monday through Friday.

Key responsibilities

• Perform advanced troubleshooting, repair and preventive maintenance on powder coating booths, ovens, conveyor systems, extrusion machines, grinders, mixers and dust collection systems.
• Diagnose mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic and electrical issues and implement solutions.
• Develop and run preventive and predictive maintenance programs to minimize downtime.
• Coordinate with production, safety and quality departments on equipment reliability and compliance.
• Plan and schedule maintenance work orders, spare parts usage and machine overhauls, and maintain maintenance logs and service records.
• Recommend process improvements and ensure work meets OSHA, NFPA and plant safety standards.
• Take part in capital project planning, installation and equipment commissioning.

Required profile

• Minimum 7-10 years of industrial maintenance experience.
• High school diploma (minimum); a technical degree, certification or equivalent hands-on experience in industrial maintenance or mechanical engineering is listed as preferred.
• US citizens or green card holders; must pass a background check and drug test.
• Ability to work in a noisy, hot manufacturing plant with powder coating exposure, and to stand, stoop and lift up to 50 lbs.
• Overtime, weekends and on-call availability.

Required skills

• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving ability.
• Proficiency with CMMS systems, maintenance scheduling and parts inventory management.
• Ability to read blueprints, schematics and technical manuals.
• Preferred: welding, fabrication and machining experience.

• Pay of $28 to $31 per hour depending on experience, plus a $5,000 sign-on bonus.
